PROJECT NOTES.

2022/01/30

Our project in the Collaborative Unit is the FirstPersonPlay game. Our Group has six members from Game Design and 3D Animation.

We have a clear division of tasks, and so far, the cooperation has been very smooth. Although we had some disagreement on the project, we all figured it out.

Technically our Group can be divided into three parts. The first part consists of two people responsible for planning game levels and the story. The second part is also composed of two people responsible for designing and modelling the game scene characters. Another mate and I were in charge of map editing and programming.

2022/02/02

We came out with our first plan and set a schedule.

Our schedule is a 9-day plan.

First, we should complete the first scene in nine days, during which I should finish the FirstPersonPlay Controller’s code and develop model naming rules within the project.

Then build the scene in Unity and apply puzzles’ code.

If all goes well, we will test the demo of the first scene on the ninth day.

Our project ran into all game studios’ issues: Remake the plan.

2022/02/06

We are about to tell a story about a game producer.

Our game will be a 3D environmental narrative game. I hope we will not change our pan again.

Game Narrative Introduction

The protagonist travels through a Parallel Universe

He accidentally met another himself and was involved in another life in Parallel Universe.

The protagonist found his original intention of creating games when he was young.

Finally, the protagonist returns to his original Parallel Universe and makes some changes to his life.

I had some disagreement with one of my team members in charge of modeling art about asset management. Because I put too much emphasis on the naming and units of assets, but she thinks that our project size is too small, and overemphasizing asset management will take too much time and affect efficiency.

2021/01/11|SOME ADDITIONAL WORK

In the process of using maya I taught myself MEL through Youtube and Maya documentation.

Here is my first Script in 2021/10/24|BALL & TAIL ANIMATION.

In this Script I used control offered by Maya documentation.

The controls I used:

attrFieldSliderGrp (A Slider which can link to a specific parameter and drag the slider can change the linked parameter.)

eg: attrFieldSliderGrp -l “Name of the text above the input box” -min -90.0 -max 90.0 -at (“CTRL_kuyruk_02″+”.rx”);

button (A basic clickable button and can execute the command by clicking it.)

eg: button -l “Text on the button” -c “setAttr CTRL_kuyruk_02.rotateX 0”

checkBox (A box which can change a specific variable by checking or unchecking it)

eg: checkBox -label “Text behind the checkBox” -onc “$link[0]=1” -ofc “$link[0]=0”;

I used global proc to store the commands.

Here is my second Script in 2021/12/12|BODY MECHANICS ANIMATION.

It is a early version of this script which has a really ugly UI, because I can only use the “columnLayout” to arrange controls.

columnLayout (A basic Layout form which just layout each control one by one)

eg: columnLayout -adjustableColumn 1;

I have rearranged the UI and add a Select_All button to select all FK and IK.

The latest version has a much clear UI and takes up less space on a monitor.

This script’s logic is using “getAttr” to get each control’s X Y Z value and store in a variable. Then adapt the opposite part of body by this variable.

This version the the “formLayout” to arrange each buttons location.

formLayout (A ultimate layout form which allows desighers to set each elements location in the form.)

Here is the Mel for trying :3 (change the extension name in to mel 🙂

SEQUENCE SHOTS IN FILMS

At first I only wanted to talk about “one shot” films, but I found that there are too many films that use long take, like The Revenant and The Gravity.

There is a book (Film History) I did not cite, but really helped me a lot on my research direction.

2021/11/16|BREAKING DOWN 2 FILMS’ STORY AND CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT.

I chose two of my favourite films.

Both Zootopia and Interstellar made a great success.

Zootopia 2016

Story development breakdown

Exposition:

1. Drama.

The film started with a drama starring pupils which stated the world setting.

2. Bullying.

The protagonist Judy Hopps tried to do justice when she was young but was bullied by Gideon Grey.

3. Becoming a police officer

Judy Hopps became a police officer through his wisdom and hard work.

4. leaving

Judy Hopps bid farewell to his parents to Zootropolis.

Zootopia is a 100-minute film with the ending credits deducted. Therefore, the film’s story development will not be as simple and single as Romeo and Juliet. Part Ⅰ(Exposition) alone can be divided into small Rising action, Climax, Falling action, and Resolution.

The Drama is the Exposition in this part. Overcoming the Bullying and the difficulties in becoming a police officer can be the Rising action. Becoming a police officer is the Climax. Saying goodbye to your parents is a Falling action. And the leaving is the Resolution.

Rising action:

As I am mentioned before, Zootopia is a long animated film with several storylines.

1. Finding missing mammals is the main line of the film.

Exposition: Judy Hopps reports to the police station, but it was underestimated.

Rising action: Judy Hopps caught the thief but caused trouble. However, he was tasked with investigating the missing otter.

2. The development of the relationship between Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde is also an important timeline for the film.

Exposition: Judy Hopps met Nick Wilde in the popsicle shop and then found out that Nick Wilde lied to himself.

Rising action: Judy Hopps asks Nick Wilde to help him find the missing otter.

3. The friendship between Judy Hopps and Mr Big is a sideline.

Exposition: Judy Hopps saved Mr Big’s daughter.

4. Bellwether’s seizure of power is a unobvious story line.

Exposition: Lionheart is harsh on Bellwether.

Climax:

1. Finding missing mammals is the main line of the film.

Climax: Judy Hopps found all the missing mammals in the cliffside Institute.

2. The development of the relationship between Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde is also an important timeline for the film.

Climax: Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde broke up at a news conference.

3. The friendship between Judy Hopps and Mr Big is a sideline.

Climax: Mr Big is about to ice Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde.

4. Bellwether’s seizure of power is a unobvious story line.

Climax: Bellwether’s secret is discovered, and she tries to kill Judy Hopps.

Falling action:

1. Finding missing mammals is the main line of the film.

Falling action: Although lionheart was framed and arrested, Judy Hopps helped him clear up his accusation.

2. The development of the relationship between Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde is also an important timeline for the film.

Falling action: Judy Hopps apologized to Nick Wilde and was forgiven. They teamed up to discover Bellwether’s crime and become colleagues.

3. The friendship between Judy Hopps and Mr Big is a sideline.

Falling action: Mr Big helps Judy Hopps interrogate Duke Weaselton and become lulu’s kid’s godmother.

4. Bellwether’s seizure of power is a unobvious story line.

Falling action: Bellwether’s crimes were exposed and imprisoned.

Resolution:

Zootopia inherited Disney’s old Resolution–Music.

Every character enjoyed the song<try everything> and dancing include Bellwether, who were in poison.

Judy Hopps’s Development Breakdown

1. Judy Hopps wanted to be a police officer since she was young. The fox Gideon Grey’s injury to her made her always wary of the fox.

2. Judy Hopps went to work in the city centre but it didn’t go smoothly. Coincidentally, he took over the investigation of the missing otter. This is an opportunity to show her ability

3. Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde found all the missing mammals and were commended.

5. Judy Hopps exposed the real culprit in the case of the missing mammals. Dissolved the tension between predators and prey.

6. Judy Hopps awarded the police badge to Nick Wilde. Then they became colleagues.

Judy Hopps is a static protagonist in some ways because she keeps her passion to be a good police officer and to protect the people in Zootropolis. But Judy Hopps is also a around protagonist because she overcame her vigilance against foxes.

Judy Hopps’s weakness is her distrust of foxes. This weakness was caused by her childhood experience. The weakness also hurts her friend Nick Wilde’s feelings. But after so much wonderful and exciting adventure, they came together again.
